- Prepare 200 gms Paneer
- Get 1 Onion

Palak Paneer is a quintessential North Indian vegetarian dish made with cottage cheese and fresh spinach. Just the sight of white cubes of paneer peeping through the emerald green spinach puree will make your mouth water. Palak Paneer is one of the most popular paneer dishes. Paneer (Indian cottage cheese) is cooked with spinach and spices in this creamy and flavorful curry.
Instructions to make Palak Paneer:
- Wash the Palak.Add enough water in a pan and bring it to a boil.Add washed palak leaves to it.Off the flame and cover it for two minutes.Drain the water and transfer palak to a stainer.Add normal water over it so that it's colour does not change.
- In a mixer jar add palak and green chillies and grind it to a smoooth paste.
- In a kadai add one tbsp butter and oil.After it heats add bay leaf,cloves,pepper,dalchini and saute it.Add onions,ginger,garlic and saute it till onions change colour.Add tomatoes to it and saute till it becomes soft.Transfer it to a plate and allow it to cool.
- In a mixer jar add the above ingredients and grind it to a smooth paste.
- Cut paneer into cubes and sprinkle salt and turmeric powder over it.Keep it aside.
- In same kadai add remaining butter and oil.Add the grinded onion paste to it.Add salt,red chilli powder,dhania powder,jeera powder and salt to it.Cook it for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add palak paste to it.Cook it for 3 to 4 minutes.Now add paneer cubes to it. Stir slowly so that paneer cubes does not break.Cook it for 2 to 4 minutes on medium to low flame.Then off the flame.
- Tranfer it to another bowl.Serve hot with phulkas.You can garnish it with fresh cream.
It pairs well with naan, paratha or jeera rice. When we were kids, the only way my brothers would eat spinach was if it was cooked with paneer in palak paneer. Mix in the paneer to coat it. Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the paneer for a few minutes until crisp and golden on all sides. Palak paneer is a popular dish from North India (Punjab).
